Text:
Georgia marble, known the world over for its beauty and enduring qualities, was first systematically quarried in 1836 by Henry Fitzsimmons four miles east of here. The present extensive use as an exterior and interior building stone and for statuary, mausoleums, and monuments is due largely to the vision and energy of Colonel Sam Tate.
